Astrophotography
“Praise ye Him, sun and moon: praise Him, all ye stars of light. Praise Him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for He commanded, and they were created.”
Psalms 148 : 3 - 5 KJV
The date was August 21, 2017. My wife and I had gotten our car ready, food and drink, and yep - camera charged and ready to go... We were going to check out our first total solar eclipse, and we were not disappointed. The countryside turning an eerie shade as if it was dusk, yet different. For anyone who's experienced one of these events, it is hard to describe. The image above is from that day, and whether it was the stunning silence of a giant 2,159 mile rock falling across the sky in front of the sun, or the sudden pinch of cold as the temperature did drop a good 10-15 degrees during the totality, these are times that for the past 6000 years mankind has and continues to have an awe and fascination with the heavens.
Astrophotography, also known as Deep Sky Photography, is a science. People can get a decent result in a few minutes, but to really get the best of what is up there, that can take months or even years to get a handle on it. I know, as I am continuing to grow (and enjoy) the process of taking numerous exposures and stacking them on the computer to get as much detail possible out of the night sky. I have a ways to go! Most profound is that a Loving God and Creator has hung all these innumerable sights in the heavens, as Psalms 148 reaffirms. How Great Thou Art Lord, indeed...
