Butterflies
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5 : 17 KJV
Ever since I was a little boy, I had such a fascination with butterflies and moths. On various road trips growing up, I would almost always have some kind of butterfly net, ready to go on an adventure whether it be by the ocean coasts or even the forest hikes. Those days of trying to catch butterflies in a net are long behind me. I now prefer to catch them in a different way, a way that is much more appropriate and respectful to these beautiful creatures the Lord Has Created: with my camera. It's also much more rewarding, as they can continue their lives as long as they're given, and I get to look a them in detail that not even my own eyes could pick up in the wild.
This verse from 2 Corinthians is so moving because it conveys to us the way that our lives in choosing Jesus Christ as our Savior can so drastically transform us for the best. Whether it be butterflies or moths, the metamorphosis they undergo in their chrysalis (or cocoon in the moth's case) is anything but subtle... So too our transformation in God's Love and Mercy can result in the most drastic changes in our lives: making us new not just physically, but also emotionally and most importantly, spiritually - in line with God's Word, the Bible.
